Ideas and routes
The area around Luchon has some great routes. Their website is a rich resource with plenty of ideas and route maps for you to download. There are also several suggestions for places to stay.
Fully qualified mountain guides are available here if you would like to hire a guide to accompany you on any of your proposed walks. Alternatively they can offer a variety of planned guided walks for you to join in.
Specialist Walking Holidays
Starting in Lourdes, this walk takes you up the valley of the Gave to Gavarnie, vis Argeles-Gazost, Luz St Sauveur and Gedre.
Based at les Sorbiers (see below) Pyrenees Walking provides a regular programme of walks of various grades throughout the summer months.
Pyrenean Adventures offer walks in the less frequented areas of the mountains and also tours with an historical element.
Activity Holidays including a walking element
Pyrenean Odysseys offer a wide variety of guided walks and activities, suitable for all abilities. Accommodation is offered for those who require it, with a choice of self catering gites and apartments or a comfortable hotel providing a flavour of the traditions of the Toy Valley.
Mountainbug is a small company run by a husband and wife team of two British International Mountain Leaders, based from their own highly-acclaimed 3* guesthouse in the traditional mountain village of Bareges. Mountainbug specialises in guided walking and trekking, cycling, canyoning and multi activity holidays in the Summer, and downhill skiing (in the Tourmalet resort - the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees), snowshoeing and ski touring trips in the Winter. Accommodation is at 'Les Cailloux' (see above). All Mountainbug holidays use only qualified guides and instructors, allowing guests to benefit from local knowledge and to support the economy of the Pyrénées.
Les Sorbiers is a traditional Pyrenean mountain chalet/Hotel which specialises in family and group activity holidays, based in the village of Bareges, an excellent location for spring, summer, autumn and winter activity holidays. The guided holidays, all with qualified English speaking guides, are undertaken from the front door and include cycling, mountain biking, walking, skiing, wildlife and multi-activity options.
